CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) — The 11th ranked Illinois men’s basketball team will be without one of its key players for the next several weeks.
Head coach Brad Underwood announced that senior guard Kylan Boswell suffered a fracture in his right hand during practice on Monday. Underwood said Boswell is expected to return to the lineup sometime in February.
Boswell has been an important contributor for the Fighting Illini this season, providing leadership and production in the backcourt as the team has surged in recent weeks.
Boswell leads the team in minutes played this season, averaging 31.7 mpg and has started all 18 games. He ranks second on the roster in scoring offense with an average of 14.3 ppg, adding 61 assists, and 13 steals.
Despite the setback, Illinois enters its next game riding a seven-game winning streak. The Fighting Illini return to action Wednesday night at State Farm Center, where they will host Maryland. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m., with the game airing on the Big Ten Network.
Team officials have not announced any additional roster adjustments as Boswell begins his recovery.
