CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) - In Terrence Shannon Jr’s. first game since his suspension was lifted, No. 14 Illinois stomped Rutgers 86-63.
Shannon‘a suspension was lifted after a judge ruled in favor of his temporary restraining order on Friday.
There was some early rust for Shannon, as he was held without a field goal in the first half. His first four points came from free throws. But Shannon found his groove in the second half, where he scored 12 of his 16 points.
”It just makes the team feel whole again,” said Justin Harmon, who had a team-high 18 off the bench. “We’re just glad to have him back.”
Shannon had been suspended since Dec. 28 after he was charged with rape in Douglas County, KS. His next court appearance is set for Feb. 23.
Illinois (14-4, 5-2 Big Ten) will head to Evanston on Wednesday to face in-state rival Northwestern. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m.
