CERRO GORDO, Ill. (WAND) -- Cerro Gordo/Bement and Arcola will co-op in football for the 2025 and 2026 seasons due to low turnout for both programs.
Tuesday night Cerro Gordo School District and Bement School District voted in a special board meeting to approve the agreement after Arcola approved the agreement Monday night.
The co-op team will compete under the Arcola Purple Riders name and will participate in a full schedule of games at the varsity level. There will also be JV contests if there is a sufficient number of players.
The co-op comes after CGB already cancelled their 2025 varsity football season after low player participation and a low turnout for Arcola.
The Purple Riders are coming off a 4-5 record last season while the Broncos went 0-9.
Arcola is scheduled to open the 2025 season up on the road against Sullivan.
