STILLWATER, Okl. (WAND) - The season came to a close for the Eastern Illinois softball program Saturday afternoon, as the Panthers fell to Princeton, 2-1.
Despite 8 hits in the outing, a strong defensive effort by the Tigers limited EIU's offensive production, resulting in their elimination.
Princeton carried a 2-0 advantage after three innings, holding Eastern Illinois scoreless through 5 frames.
Abbi Hatton was able to put the Panthers on the board with a solo home run to straightaway center in the 6th inning.
EIU threatened in the final frame with a runner in scoring position, but were unable to find the hits necessary to plate a tying run.
The season ends with the Panthers' 3rd appearance at the NCAA tournament in 4 seasons, and second-consecutive trip. They end their 2026 campaign with an overall record of 36-23, including the OVC regular season and tournament title.
