Mt. Zion softball reaches 1,000 win mark, 4th most in Illinois

MT. ZION, Ill. (WAND) - The Lady Braves softball team is one of the winningest programs in the IHSA after clinching their 1,000th win Tuesday.

Mt. Zion won both legs of a double-header with Effingham (6-4, 9-3) to reach the milestone, a feat only four other teams in Illinois have achieved.

Current head coach Greg Blakey has been responsible for nearly 800 of those wins, joined by previous leaders Gigi MacIntosh, Greg Bradley, and Karen Brischle in the program's early years.

Since the Lady Braves' first season in 1982, the team has only finished with a record below .500 in four seasons.

As of the 2024 season, Mt. Zion has a program winning percentage of almost 73%. The team currently boasts a 5-1 record in the early stages of their 2025 campaign.
