(WAND WEATHER) - 2024 saw Illinois picking up 142 tornadoes; the most out of any other state, making it a record year. Â
That bested 2006 when 125 twisters touched down in the state.Â
Unfortunately, 2025 is off to a stomach-churning start with over half the typical number of tornadoes for central Illinois in any given year, and Spring just started! Â
Enter Wednesday; the next round of warm, moist air from the Gulf Coast slamming into an approaching cold front. Â
While strong wind gusts and large hail may be the more prevalent form of severe weather we face, by no means is a tornado out of the picture. Â
