(WAND WEATHER) - 2024 saw Illinois picking up 142 tornadoes; the most out of any other state, making it a record year.

That bested 2006 when 125 twisters touched down in the state.

Unfortunately, 2025 is off to a stomach-churning start with over half the typical number of tornadoes for central Illinois in any given year, and Spring just started!

Enter Wednesday; the next round of warm, moist air from the Gulf Coast slamming into an approaching cold front.

While strong wind gusts and large hail may be the more prevalent form of severe weather we face, by no means is a tornado out of the picture.
