DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - The title of this evening's blog is a weird combo, for sure. Nonetheless, that's exactly what WAND weather is expecting.
There was a lot of dirt lofted into the air over the past couple of days as planting season is underway. Strong, gusty winds ahead of our latest cold front aided that dirt being tossed upward through the atmosphere.
Now, if you are armed with the knowledge that a raindrop needs a nuclei to form, then you're already ahead of me. The dirt that was creating blinding visibility in spots earlier is the nuclei for tonight's showers and thunderstorms. These same storms will quell the blowing dirt/dust, so visibility will improve (outside of the thunderstorm that is), but it leaves behind a filthy mess. The water on your car will evaporate, but the dirt nuclei will not. So, if you don't have a garage or carport, it's off to the car wash for you. Also, be mindful that some of the storms will produce quarter-size hail and wind gusts near 60 mph early tonight. Therefore, sporadic pockets of damage will develop. It just won't be the same scenario as last Monday.
Stay safe out there, and stay weather-aware.
