DECATUR, IL. (WAND) - Storm chances will ramp up through the afternoon as a system moves northward. A wind advisory will be in place through 7 pm this evening. Winds will be gusting around 45 mph. Temperatures will soar into the mid-70s this afternoon ahead of the storms.

Isolated, pop-up thunderstorms will begin to move from west to east through the afternoon. The initial line of storms will develop around 2 this afternoon. The initial line of showers will hang around Central Illinois through 6 pm this evening. The winds will be the biggest threat with these storm cells, but tornadoes cannot be ruled out.

Another wave of storms could develop west of I-55 this evening after 6 pm. The models are showing most of these falling apart quickly, but if these storms fire off, they could pack quite a punch. Be weather aware this afternoon and evening, and download the WAND-TV weather app for updates.
