DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - Milder weather, at least compared to the recent record, returned earlier Monday. While this trend will continue for a little bit, it doesn't come without problems. There's the obvious melting of snow, then refreezing to consider. Plus, there is a lot of snow to melt. In some areas, the yearly average amount of snow has been matched, and we're not technically at the Winter Solstice yet. Â
A short-term concern is fog. Milder air over cold ground can lead to patchy freezing fog headed into Tuesday morning. Extra time to arrive at your destination wouldn't be a bad idea. Â
Meanwhile, the rip-roaring start to December in the snow department will give way to a pattern shift. This will allow milder weather to return with some rain. This is not a temperature pattern shift that will last all winter. WAND weather is still expected to be below average temperatures for the back half of the season. Â
