DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - 13 students from three local high schools have received the ImpactLife Student Impact Award, which is given annually to recognize students who have demonstrated outstanding support for our region’s blood supply.

The Student Impact Award Program honors high school students for their contributions to the blood supply through activities such as donating blood (at least six times), recruiting new donors (at least six), or hosting a local blood drive.

Local recipients of the Student Impact Award include:

  • Decatur Christian School: Charles Moore
  • Mount Zion JR/SR High School: Samuel Albrecht, Andrew Cox, Lexie Damery, Ava Stowers, Trinity Walker, Sydney Winick, Alyssa Thompson
  • Warrensburg-Latham High School: Elizabeth Cornett, Bailee Denton, Logan Mason, Emma Novota, Neeley Powell

“Across our region, we’re fortunate to work with students who want to make a difference, develop leadership skills, and volunteer to help our community,” said Jim Watts, Manager, Donor Relations.  “We appreciate our Student Impact Award recipients for their commitment to helping others, and we look forward to seeing the positive difference they’ll make long into the future.”

Student Impact Award recipients receive a certificate and a red cord symbolizing the link between blood donors, ImpactLife, and patients. With school permission, students can wear the red cord during their high school graduation ceremony.

ImpactLife presents the Student Impact Award towards the end of the school year, coinciding with a decline in blood donation rates due to the absence of school-based blood drives. The blood center urgently needs donors of all blood types, especially O-negative, the universal blood type.
