CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) — Nobody was hurt after a fire in a Champaign apartment building in Campustown Saturday night.

The Champaign Fire Department responded to a fire in a large multi-family apartment building near the intersection of East Green Street and South 3rd Street just after 11:30 p.m. Saturday.

According to the department, a mattress caught fire on the third floor of the building. When they arrived, firefighters found a single sprinkler head activated that had mostly put out the fire.

Crews used an extinguisher to put out any remaining fire and helped remove smoke from the building.

The department said the fire was accidentally started by a candle. Nobody was hurt.
