DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - A small earthquake shook parts of central Illinois Monday night.

The quake registered a magnitude of 3.3 near Lerna in Coles County at 11:43 p.m. Monday, according to the United States Geological Survey.

There have been no reports of any damage. Earthquakes of this magnitude rarely cause damage in the United States. 

The USGS said the earthquake had a depth of approximately six miles. According to the USGS and other agencies that monitor and research earthquakes, the area of Monday's earthquake could have originated out of the Wabash Valley Seismic Zone.

People near Mattoon, Charleston, and the Indiana border may have felt the earthquake.
