Habitat for Humanity completes Logan Co. home for local family

ILLINOIS, (WAND) - A Logan County family has a new home and a new start after Habitat for Humanity Logan County completed another housing project aimed at making homeownership more attainable.

Volunteers helped prepare the house by hanging doors, installing drywall and patching walls. While the house was already built before the project began, Habitat for Humanity Logan County Vice President Jamie Voyles said the work still required substantial time and effort from volunteers.

“[T]he idea of home ownership is something that many people just cannot afford these days,” Voyles said. “Habitat uses a mechanism of finance that allows them the opportunity to own a home, whereas they could not go to the bank and ask for a house.”

Voyles said owning a home can also give residents a greater stake in their community, from maintaining a yard to handling repairs when problems arise.

Habitat for Humanity Logan County is seeking more volunteers for future home builds and remodeling projects in the county.
