SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - A new monthly event is coming to the Illinois State Museum to get kids engaged with the arts and sciences.Â
The Abraham Lincoln Council will host a six-month STEAM series for children aged five to 11 beginning in September.Â
Each event will be focused on a different STEAM theme, including Coding Unplugged, Robotics, Mad Scientists, Forensics, Simple Machines and Digging in the Past.Â
Each session will be led by educators and volunteers, and families will also get to explore museum exhibits to make a day out of each visit.Â
Workshop Schedule and Themes:Â
- September 6: Coding Unplugged - Discover the basics of programming without a computer in this no-tech session
- October 11: Robotics - Dive into the world of robots, exploring different technologies and discovering how they make our lives easier
- November 8: Mad Scientists - Channel your inner scientist with thrilling experiments that explore the wonders of chemistry and physics
- February 14: Forensics - Test your detective skills and uncover the science behind solving mysteries
- March 14: Simple Machines - Learn about levels, pulley, and more by creating your own simple machines to solve real-world problems
- April 11: Digging in the Past - Become and archaeologist as you explore excavation techniques and the science of history
The sessions will all be held at the Illinois State Museum, 502 S. Spring St. in Springfield.Â
Cost:Â
- Scouts - $25/Saturday or $130 for all six sessions
- Non-Scouts - $30/Saturday or $150 for all six sessions
