SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) — In honor of the 48 institutions that educate Illinoisans across the state, Gov. JB Pritzker has declared April 2024 as Illinois Community College Month.
The proclamation points out that the country's first community college was established in Joliet in 1901.
According to the Illinois Community College Board, Illinois community colleges educate 65 percent of the students enrolled in Illinois public higher education.
