JACKSONVILLE, Ill. (WAND) — The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says car crashes are a leading cause of death for children aged 1 to 13.

In support of National Child Passenger Safety Week with West Central Joint ETSB, the City of Jacksonville is holding a car seat safety check event on Saturday, September 21. The event is hosted by the Jacksonville Fire Department and will take place from 9 a.m. to noon at 200 West Douglas Avenue.

Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians will be on stand-by to make sure the seats are installed correctly. Organizers of the event say, "Ensuring that car seats are correctly installed is crucial for the safety of young passengers and can significantly reduce the risk of serious injury. "

The event is open to everyone, and there is no required registration.
