CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) — Not just one, but three robotics teams from the area will be heading to Elgin in March for the Illinois FIRST Tech Challenge State Championship.

As part of an alliance team, Robot Rebellion from Rochester, 4-H Super SCREAM Bros from Decatur, and Ctrl-Y from Champaign achieved the current state high score during the Central/Southern Illinois League Tournament on February 3.

In addition to competing, these teams regularly provide STEM outreach to younger students who have an interest in robotics.

Laurie Larson has been involved in FTC Robotics for many years, first as a parent and now as Ctrl-Y’s Head Coach. “Many of our team members are interested in pursuing engineering or computer science fields in college,” said Laurie. “Through Ctrl-Y, the team develops real-world technical skills, while also learning how to manage a complex project, communicate with team members, problem-solve creatively, and mentor younger students.”
