DANVILLE, Ill. (WAND) - It Takes A Village Mentorship in Danville held a community event this past weekend to benefit children in Vermilion County.

The event started with a basketball and cheer camp.

There was also a charity basketball game where everyone from local police officers, community members, and business owners participated.

Organizers said the event was created to help bring the city together and create a positive environment where families can come together and enjoy themselves.

Director of It Takes A Village Mentorship Pastor Lestan Hoskins said, "Sports has a way of bringing people together, especially basketball. So, we've got a lot of former basketball players and people who love to play basketball. They came out... We have food, basketball, and then we have something positive in the community. A lot of times people are looking for some family oriented things, and this is it."
