DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — The City of Decatur and the Central Illinois Land Bank Authority unveiled their fourth and fifth rehabbed homes ready for purchase in Decatur on Thursday.
Executive Director Mike Davis said the goal is to create more local homeowners. And when American Rescue Plan money came in during COVID, Davis asked the city to set aside some of it to create homeowners:
"When the city had American Rescue Plan Act funding, I asked them can you dedicate some of this funding to do rehabs... and then the state, the Illinois Housing Development Agency, they matched some of the funding too. All of these rehabs we are doing are all gut rehabs, they are all brought 100% up to code. And, our goal is how do we create home ownership opportunities, for residence of Decatur in really great properties like this and give folks a chance at an affordable home." said Davis.
There will be an open house on Sunday from 1-3:00 p.m. at 475 S. Crea Street and 1920 N. Edward Street.Â
The first rehabbed home was sold in April.
