(WAND) - From catchy sing-along lessons to developmental milestones, Mr. Zal helps Kindergarten through sixth graders build a strong foundation.

Lazerik Winfield is the founder of "Mr. Zal Classroom," he said his two-year-old daughter inspired him to become the character. Winfield is from Chicago and has lived in Urbana for several years. His character uses engaging songs to help children learn fundamental skills, such as tying their shoes and developing healthy habits like eating their vegetables.

Winfield said his mission goes beyond the glasses and bowtie — it's about showing kids representation and confidence.

"They're actually learning. I had a father come to me and say, 'Thank you so much for seven days of the week. My daughter didn't even know her seven days a week until she heard your song,'" Winfield said. "It's not just entertainment; it's a learning lesson. It's about values, morals and teaching them how to be kind to one another, how to be respectful."

As an African American creator, Winfield feels a responsibility to showcase positive and enriching character traits for children.

"Instead of just being an entertainer or a person just doing videos, you're going to see a father figure," Winfield said.

Winfield said it is important for all students to see a reflection of themselves in education. His videos aim to inspire children to be authentically themselves. The creator hopes his content has a lasting impact.

"Generation after generation, they're going to remember Mr. Zal's classroom just from the impact that I made in the community and on screen and off screen," Winfield said.

Mr. Zal encourages everyone to dream big. You can find "Mr. Zal Classroom" videos on YouTube.
