HOMER, Ill. (WAND) - An 82-year-old person who was killed after their vehicle crashed into a tree and caught fire Monday afternoon in Champaign County has now been identified.Â
Karen L. Parr of Newman, Illinois was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:08 pm.
The Champaign County Sheriff's Office said it responded to an accident around 12:15 p.m. on 2500 E, just north of 700 N.Â
An investigation had shown that Parr was going north on 2500 E when the vehicle veered off the road and hit a tree.Â
Someone nearby who was not a witness had checked on Parr and managed to pull her out of the vehicle, which was full of smoke, and started performing CPR, only to stop once it was determined she was dead.
No other people were found inside or around the vehicle.Â
The Champaign County Coroner's Office said she died as a result of injuries sustained during the crash. An autopsy is scheduled.Â
