DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) – In February 2017, Chris Moore was struck by a hit-and-run driver so hard that it bent a nickel in his pocket. Moore is still alive today after "nine long years."
A bent nickel which was in Chris Moore's pocket when he was struck by a hit & run driver in 2017. The driver has never been located.
Moore was a tow truck operator helping a driver on Interstate 72 near Argenta in Macon County. It was dark, and a vehicle that failed to move into the left lane and struck Chris, spinning him around. His injuries were so severe that he was left standing on his ankles instead of his feet.
To make matters worse, the driver fled the scene and to this day has never been located.
“The only thing they come up with is an ’06-’07 Impala,” Moore told WAND News regarding the investigation into the incident.
Move over laws were on the books nine years ago, but Chris would like to see more done regarding drivers reducing speed.
Moore is on disability. Although he works a part-time job a few hours a week to give him "a sense of purpose."
