DECATUR, ILL. (WAND)- When you walk into the at-home bakery of Jessica McBride, you instantly smell the warmth of all the baked goods she's been working on all morning.Â
The aroma only becomes more mouthwatering the closer you get into her kitchen.Â
This isn't your ordinary kitchen. McBride's kitchen is the foundation of her at home bakery- called Mama Bear's Bakery.Â
According to McBride, the idea of the bakery's name came because of her middle son.
"About a year and a half ago, he started calling my husband daddy bear. And then it just turned into mama bear, Lucas bear, Walker bear, and Landon bear. And I'm like you know what. That's got a great story and I love it. I fell in love with it, and that's what we ran with," said McBride.Â
Some things that Mama Bear Bakery offers include brown butter cinnamon rolls with cream cheese icing, muffins, and oatmeal cream pies.Â
McBride says that the community response has been overwhelming. She says that between her new and repeat customers, she's always busy.
But she always has time to spend with her three boys in the kitchen.Â
"They just love to be in the kitchen with me. They love to help. They love to, of course taste test all of the food, but we just love being in the kitchen," said McBride.Â
While McBride loves having the ability to bake and make others happy, the real reason she does it is to empower her three boys into believing they can do whatever they set their mind to.Â
"My boys, I want them to be proud of me. And as a stay at home mom, it's hard to get out of being just mom. So doing this has really been a creative outlet for me, and it just boils down to like, I'm doing this for them," said McBride. "I want them to grow up and see, mama's so determined and so passionate about some things. I want them to grow up, and if they've got a passion, I want them to go for it."
