DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — A Decatur teenager is now being charged as an adult for a November 2025 shooting that hurt a teenager in Decatur.
According to a police sworn statement, officers responded Nov. 2 to the area of East Lawrence Street and South 19th Street. Around the same time, a 17-year-old victim arrived at Decatur Memorial Hospital with a gunshot wound to the shoulder.
Investigators later identified a crime scene in the 1700 block of East Lawrence Street, where dozens of shell casings were recovered. Surveillance video and witness statements indicated two suspects exited a dark-colored SUV and opened fire on the victim’s vehicle before fleeing the scene.
Detectives identified Donald Redmon Jr. as one of the suspects. A witness who knew both individuals positively identified them as the shooters, according to police. Redmon Jr. was 17 at the time of the shooting.
Court records show that Donald L. Redmon Jr. is now facing four felony charges: attempted murder (Class X), aggravated battery with a firearm (Class X), aggravated discharge of a firearm (Class 1), and aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon (Class 4).
He pleaded not guilty to these charges in February.
Redmon Jr. was denied pretrial release during a detention hearing on March 22. During a preliminary hearing, the court ordered that he be taken into custody at the Macon County Jail after turning 18 on March 10.
Police say Redmon Jr. does not have a valid FOID card or concealed carry license.
