(WAND) - Saturday, June 6, is National Trails Day.Â
The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is hosting hikes at four locations across the state. Those who complete a hike will earn a special patch inspired "Hiked It and Liked It" sticker.Â
Events include:Â
Hiking Boot Challenge at Giant City State Park in Jackson County Â
- Each of the park's seven trails, ranging from one-third mile to 2 miles, will have a hidden "hiking boot." Walk two of the seven trails and take a selfie at each of the boots. Once you finish, go to the visitor center between 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. and show your selfies to get a special sticker.Â
Self-guided hike at Lincoln Trail State Park in Clark CountyÂ
- Enjoy a self-guided hike through wooded areas, open fields, and the shores of Lincoln Trail Lake. Check in at the campground host station in the Plainview campground to get a free sticker.Â
Guided bog tours at Volo Bog State Natural Area in Lake CountyÂ
- Walk along a floating boardwalk through Illinois' only open-water quaking bog, formed thousands of years ago by glacial activity. Tours start at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. and are limited to 10 participants per group. Registration is required by emailing dnr.volobog@illinois.gov.
Guided hike at McHenry Dam in McHenry County
- Join a 2 mile hike at 10 a.m. at McHenry Dam. Registration is required by emailing dnr.volobog@illinois.gov.
