MT. ZION, Ill. (WAND) — After celebrating two years of being open, the owner of Oh Beez Sweet Shop in Mt. Zion says there are still people in the community who have no idea about their business.
The main staple at Oh Beez is their açaí bowls. Açaí is a berry that grows on trees in the Amazon rainforest. It's a superfruit packed with antioxidants. At Oh Beez, they have a frozen açaí sorbet that they top with granola, fresh fruit, honey and peanut butter.
Owner TyKyna Cole said they created Oh Beez to be able to bring açaí to their community.
"We as a family knew we wanted to bring açaí here. No one had it. And we went to three different states looking for which base, how we wanted to present it. I know that sets us apart," Cole said.
But their açaí bowls aren't the only draw, as they also have 12 different froyo flavors with nearly 40 different toppings, specialty drinks, fresh baked goods, pizza and breadsticks.
Oh Beez is nestled in the Mt. Zion Village East plaza off Rt. 121.
"A couple days a week, somebody's like 'I didn't know that was there!'" Cole said. "People do know about Coz's, they do know about Los Margaritas. And we're just in that same plaza nestled right between those two businesses."
Oh Beez Sweet Shop is open 3-8 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and 1-8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
