SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) — Gov. JB Pritzker said today that he will sign Karina's bill into law after it spent three years stalled in the General Assembly.

Gov. JB Pritzker spoke at a press conference on January 8 2025
The plan is named after Karina Gonzalez, who was shot and killed alongside her daughter shortly after she filed for an emergency restraining order against her husband.
It spent so long in the capitol because law enforcement raised concerns on the feasibility of the bill. Pritzker said they are now neutral with the bill.
"We've heard from law enforcement the challenge of moving guns from a home or a person," Pritzker said. "I think law enforcement got to a point where they felt they could effectuate the Karina's law and it's the right idea, the right thing to do, I will sign the bill."
The plan passed late night Tuesday as Illinois House Democrats fought for the bill in the last session of the 103 General Assembly. Karina Gonzalez's son Manny Gonzalez watched on the House floor as the plan passed.
