Richland Community College Fitness Center

DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - The Fitness Center at Richland Community College will host two events to support local veterans during Veterans Suicide Prevention Month in September.

Cars and Coffee will take place from 8-11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, in Richland's Workforce Development Institute's north parking lot. All makes and models of cars are welcome to participate, free doughnuts and coffee will be provided to attendees and there will be an open house for the College's automotive program. 

The fifth annual Operation Obstacle will start around 10:15 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, at the Workforce Development Institute.

Racers can register for the event either online or from 8:30-9:30 a.m. on the day of the race. There will also be a veteran's honorary ceremony at 10 a.m. featuring the national anthem, the presentation of the flag and 13 folds and opening remarks from the VA Illiana Suicide Prevention Team.

Participants will compete in 15-20 obstacles, with each finisher receiving an honorary medal, goodie bags, snacks and water. The top three male and female finishers will receive a special award.

Proceeds from the events will support Richland's Veterans Resource Center.
