SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - A Springfield area doctor returned home safely after participating in rescue efforts in Texas.

Dr. Tyler Fulks, an SIU Medicine emergency medicine physician at Springfield Memorial Hospital, was a member of the Indiana Task Force 1, which returned home following a 20-day deployment to Kerr County, Texas.

The task force supported the ongoing rescue efforts after catastrophic flooding that severely impacted the area.

"We are incredibly proud of Dr. Fulks and his willingness to put others first, even in the most difficult situations. His selfless service embodies the very heart of SIU Medicine's mission—improving the lives of others through care, courage and community," SIU said Medicine in a July 30 Facebook post.
