SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) — The Springfield Park District is celebrating 125 years in the community.

Park District staff invite the public to take part in the historic celebration.

Starting with an ice skating celebration on February 8 for $1.25 at the Nelson Center with music.

On February 22, there is Cabin Fever at Erin's Pavilion for those aged 5 to 12.

On March 1, there will be a trivia night.

From March 22 through April 13, there will be a Spring Floral Display.

The Nelson Center Pool opens the weekend of May 24 through 26.

From May 22 to 25, there will be an international Carillon Festival.

The Taste of the Past, where people can sample ice cream and view a photo gallery showcasing the Springfield Park District, will take place on June 14.

July 12 is Unplug Illinois Day with free admission to the Nelson Center pool and the Henson Robinson Zoo.

There will also be a Night Glow Festival on September 18 at Southwind Park, which will include family-friendly fun, food, and entertainment.

Step back in time with the Sports Time Machine on August 16 with an introduction to the Horseshoes; An Ultimate Distance Duel with the Longest Drive, Putt & Chip contest on September 13; and the Cyclocross takes place on October 18.

The Happy Harvest Hoedown will take place in the afternoon of October 4 at Southwind Park. It will include games, seasonal activities, and music.

Then, start looking at the zoo lights in December, and end the year with the Winter Holiday Floral Show from December 6 through the 21.
