DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) -Â May 18 was the last time the region had a tornado develop. It was one of five tornado days so far this year. Unfortunately, severe weather returns in a couple waves later Wednesday and Thursday.Â
The initial batch of thunderstorms that form Wednesday afternoon may have trouble producing a tornado, but the risk of wind and hail will certainly be there. A second batch of storms may develop after midnight Wednesday night/early Thursday morning. It would be best for you to have a way to receive the forecast in the middle of the night. Â
A cold front will arrive Thursday night to usher this latest round of high humidity out of here. However, the potential for tornadic activity will increase ahead of it during the afternoon and evening hours. Â
Start making weather safety plans now, and know where you will be during those times and where your safest location is. Â
Stay safe and stay weather-aware.Â
