MONTICELLO, Ill. (WAND) — Allerton Park and Retreat Center will be wrapping up this season's concert series with Summer's End.
Scheduled for Friday, September 29, the concert will feature the funk and soul-style music of The North 41 and Joslyn & the Sweet Compression, a vendor fair, plenty of food trucks and the scenic venue of the Monticello-area park’s Gatehouse Lawn.
“This year, the Summer’s End concert will feature funk and soul music, something different than what you usually expect at an Allerton concert. It’s groovy music and will get you bopping and dancing all night,” said Olivia Bunting, Allerton’s Senior Program Coordinator.
The evening kicks off at 6 p.m. with The North 41, which exploded onto the Chicago music scene in 2018 with their funked-up version of Metallica’s “Enter Sandman,” which has racked up more than 8 million views on Facebook.
Joslyn & The Sweet Compression — also based in the Chicago area — follows at 7:30 p.m., featuring the dynamic voice of Joslyn Hampton. The band also includes her stepfather and guitarist and songwriter Marty Charters, who has shared the stage with Junior Wells, Buddy Guy and Van Morrison. The band released a self-titled album in 2019 and has headlined at regional clubs and music festivals across the country.
Joslyn & The Sweet Compression will perform at the Summer’s End concert at Allerton Park and Retreat Center on Friday, Sept. 29.
A donation of $5/person or $10/family is suggested and will be collected at the gate.
Food will be available to purchase from Ice Daddy’s, Jimmy John’s, Mamma D’s Smokehouse BBQ and Piato to Go.There will also be a cash bar available. Attendees can bring their own food, but outside alcohol is not permitted. Lawn chairs and blankets are also recommended.
Ten vendors will also be on hand, including Salt Prairie Photography, Prairie Fire Barn Quilts, The Quirky Quiltress and Sundrop Alpacas.
“The Allerton concerts are always a great time listening to good music, eating good food from local food trucks and spending time with your favorite people at your favorite place,” added Bunting. “An added bonus at this concert is the vendor fair to peruse to get an early start on your holiday shopping!”
