URBANA, Ill. (WAND)— During the month of November, the Urbana Police Department is collecting new t-shirts and socks in various sizes to give to Strides Shelter.

Lieutenant Zac Mikalik encourages the public to join the UPD in their efforts to help Strides Shelter. "Please help us help those experiencing housing insecurity in our area as we partner with Strides Shelter, a low-barrier emergency shelter resource center."

Donation boxes will be in the UPD lobby daily from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.

The UPD also participates in the Cunningham Children's Home Christmas Wish List Drive and a holiday meal drive with the Urbana Walmart.

UPD will also participate in three additional "season of giving" initiatives with other area agencies. "The Urbana Police Department truly cares about the people we serve, and we're excited to help out this holiday season."

Strides Shelter is an accessible emergency shelter and resource center for homeless adults in Urbana. The shelter does not require people using their services to be sober, abstinent, or a criminal background check.
