URBANA, Ill. (WAND) – The Urbana Police Department is investing in both its officers and community relationships after securing a new grant aimed at improving trauma-informed care.

The department received a $90,000 grant through the Total Access Collaborative for Trauma Informed Care program. The funding will be distributed over the next two years.

Officials say the grant will support officer training and wellness programs, helping ensure officers are better equipped to respond to individuals experiencing trauma.

A portion of the funding will also go toward community partner organizations that assist people impacted by trauma, strengthening collaboration between law enforcement and local support services.

Leaders say the investment is part of an ongoing effort to build trust, improve outcomes, and better serve the Urbana community.
