A new commercial-scale solar energy facility is set to be built in Decatur this year, following unanimous approval from the Decatur City Council. The project, being developed by a Texas-based company, will occupy 27.5 acres at the corner of West Mound Road and North Westlawn Avenue, northwest of the Macon County Fairgrounds. The land, previously used for farming, will be fully covered with solar panels.
