SPRINGFIELD, IL- A grand jury in Springfield has indicted a man in connection with a child's death that was originally not ruled a homicide.
This is a story that began back in March of 2008.
At the time, former Sangamon County Coroner Susan Boone ruled that 2 year-old Anakin Credit died in from a rare form of childhood cancer.
The State Appellate Prosecutor now says that after an extensive investigation that involved Illinois DCFS and Springfield Police, they believe Anakin died of blunt force trauma. The boy's death has now been ruled a homicide.
Thursday, a grand jury indicted 28 year-old Mason Weems of Springfield on first degree murder and child battery charges.
Prosecutors say Weems was the boyfriend of Anakin's mother at the time the little boy died.
Weems is being held on $500,000 bond.
