CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) — An 83-year-old man who died in a crash in rural Champaign County Thursday afternoon has been identified. 

The Champaign County Sheriff's Office said the crash occurred at the intersection of County Road 2700E and County Road 100N a little before 5 p.m.

The investigation showed that an 85-year-old man from rural Broadlands was traveling south in a pickup truck, when he failed to stop at a stop sign. He hit the pickup truck of the 83-year-old man, Junior Evans, from Sidell who was traveling eastbound.

Evans was ejected from his truck and pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. The other driver, as well as a passenger, were taken to a hospital with injuries. 

In a release, Sheriff Dustin Heuerman noted that this was the second crash in less than a week where a person was ejected from their vehicle. He recommended that drivers always wear seat belts when traveling.
