1 taken to the hospital after Springfield apartment fire

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - One person was taken to the hospital after a fire at a Springfield apartment building.

On June 1 around 4:30 p.m., the Springfield Fire Department was called to 401 E. Jefferson St. for a fire.

Firefighters saw heavy black smoke coming from an apartment on the fourth floor. Crews were able to quickly put it out and prevent it from spreading.

The fire department was on scene for about two hours.

One person was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
