THOMASBORO, Ill. (WAND) - An 11-year-old boy was sent to the hospital after being struck by a train in Thomasboro.
According to the Champaign County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to a report of a train-related accident in the 200 block of North Commercial Drive, Sunday evening.
Deputies said an 11-year-old from Champaign allegedly attempted to cross the train tracks, believing he had sufficient time to do so safely. The child told the deputies that he fell during the attempt and made contact with the train.
The boy was taken to the hospital where he was treated for a broken ankle.
This incident remains under investigation by the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office.
