SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - Two people have been indicted on charges after one person was killed and two others injured in a shooting in Springfield last August. 

On August 18, 2025, at approximately 5:51 p.m., Springfield police were called to a shooting in the 2200 block of S 14th St. Officers found three victims, all with gunshot wounds. All victims were transported to area hospitals for treatment. Two of the victims suffered non-life-threatening injuries. A third victim, Ayden Paige, 18 of Rochester, was found unresponsive and later died at the hospital. 

Criminal Investigations Division Detectives worked the case for months, in cooperation with the Sangamon County States Attorney’s Office. The investigation was presented to the Sangamon County States Attorney and to a Sangamon County Grand Jury.

On Wednesday May 6, 2026, a Sangamon County Grand Jury returned an indictment for murder.

The indictment is as follows:

Kristian Taylor – Male, 39 years old from Springfield

• 1st degree murder

• Two counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm

• Two counts of aggravated battery with a firearm

• Possession of a weapon by a felon

Joshua Tolbert – Male, 31 years old from Springfield 

• 1st degree murder

• Two counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm

• Two counts of aggravated battery with a firearm

• Possession of a weapon by a felon

• Unlawful use of a weapon – machine gun
