DANVILLE, Ill. (WAND) — On Monday, a 25-year-old man pleaded guilty to illegally using a weapon as a felon and for possessing a stolen vehicle after a high-speed chase resulted in his arrest.

Malik Brown, formerly of Chicago, was sentenced to 7 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections, followed by one year of mandatory supervised release.

Prosecutors said that on December 7, 2023, the Rossville Police Department informed the Danville PD that they were pursuing a vehicle with two stolen registration plates heading south towards Danville. The vehicle eventually came into the City of Danville.

Several officers from the Danville Police Department joined the pursuit of the vehicle, during which the suspect vehicle reached speeds of approximately 85 miles per hour on Vermilion Street and ran numerous stop signs.

The vehicle ultimately drove through the backyard of a residence in Danville, crashing into a deck and retaining wall before coming to a stop.

The driver, later identified as Malik Brown, along with the front seat passenger, fled the vehicle and led officers on a foot chase. Both Brown and the passenger were apprehended shortly after.

Danville PD later confirmed the vehicle was stolen.
