DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - A family was able to escape after a space heater caught their Decatur home on fire Wednesday night. 

The Decatur Fire Department was called out around 11 p.m. to a house in the 1000 block of E. Curtis. Smoke was showing from the roof line when they arrived. 

They were able to use a hose to extinguish fire that had extended to the 2nd floor of the house.

Three adults and 2 children were in the home when the fire started. The occupant told the fire department they were using three electric space heaters in the home, and one caught fire. 

Everyone was able to get out of the home and call 911.

The American Red Cross has been called to help the people who will be displaced for an unknown period of time.

The fire was investigated by the Decatur Fire Department.
