DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - An adult and two children were displaced after their apartment caught fire in Decatur Monday. 

The Decatur Fire Department was called to a complex in the 4800 block of N. Martin Luther King Dr. at 3:49 p.m. Heavy smoke was coming from a single apartment. 

Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish a fire in the kitchen and prevent it from spreading to neighboring apartments. Nearby units suffered only minor smoke damage. 

The fire was investigated by Decatur Fire Department investigators. After the investigation, the kitchen was overhauled, and the apartment was released to the building manager and tenant.

Due to the extensive damage to the apartment, one adult and two children were displaced. They are currently receiving assistance from the Red Cross.
