Arbor Rose in Monticello accused of care issues

MONTICELLO, Ill. (WAND) --An adult day and memory facility Monticello has been involved in multiple allegations regarding proper care of its patients.

A former employee at Arbor Rose, Kilee Smith, was there for 8 months. She says she witnessed some verbal abuse going on in the kitchen with a cook on Aug. 18.

Another former employee, Samantha Roberts, voiced her concern about a patient who fell.

"A resident had fallen and nobody was in the building," said Roberts.

She told the head nurse of the department what had happened, adding that "apparently that's not the same report that the hospital had gotten."

Owner Brent Cabka says there was only one official report filed and it was for Saturday's incident. Cabka says he immediately took all his staff in for questioning and suspended the caregiver.

Arbor Rose says it did contact the Illinois Department of Health and officials told WAND-TV they are looking into the case. The caregiver will continue to be suspended until the case is cleared up by the health department.

At this time, owners are still asking their staff and witnesses to speak up and are working to install cameras that have not worked in months.
