DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - More than a dozen movies are delayed because of the coronavirus pandemic.

That is bad news for large movie theater chains, but the Avon Theater in Downtown Decatur is trying to stay afloat. After being open for at least two weeks, it's surviving on classic movies.

2020 had people anticipating so many movies. At this point, one can only hope the release dates for Black Widow and Wonder Woman 1984 won't be pushed back. For now, Avon is offering admission for five dollars and screening older releases such as The Goonies and The Blues Brothers.

Large movie chains, like AMC, said it has "substantial doubt" it can stay in business after closing multiple locations. Reports show the large chain lost millions because of the pandemic. However, that is not stopping the locally-owned and family-operated businesses.

Central Illinoisans have been receptive to the idea of playing oldies but goldies. Whether the movie was released in the 1985 or 2020, there is something about watching movies on the big screen that makes the moment memorable.
