MT. ZION, Ill. (WAND) - A 6-year-old boy was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries after a head-on crash in Mt. Zion Wednesday. 

Mt. Zion Police Chief Adam Skundberg told WAND News the crash happened at 7:49 p.m. on Harryland Rd. near Buckhead Lane. 

Police said a vehicle driven by a 29-year-old man with a 6-year-old passenger was going eastbound on Harryland Rd. before going into the westbound lane and hitting another vehicle head-on. 

That vehicle was driven by a 16-year-old girl. 

The 6-year-old was taken to a hospital in Springfield with serious injuries. 

The crash is under investigation.
