MARTINTON, Ill. (WAND) - Dramatic video captured the moment a concrete grain bin collapsed in Martinton in northern Iroquois County on Wednesday.Â
Several Facebook users posted video that showed a grain bin spilling corn from about halfway up the silo. As it fell to the ground it snapped power lines causing a brief flash and spark.
Ameren reported about 160 customers without power.Â
One witness near the grain elevator who spoke to WAND News called the situation "scary."
Donovan Farmers Cooperative in Martinton shared a statement Thursday morning, saying that on Tuesday afternoon, employees noticed one of the cement silos was showing signs of distress. Employees evacuated and called for help.Â
The silo collapsed several hours after that first call. No one was injured.Â
It's not known yet what caused the silo to collapse.Â
Cleanup is underway with specialty contractors on site. They will focus on grain and debris cleanup. Structural engineers will be on site assessing the collapse and looking at the structural integrity of the surrounding silos.Â
Farmers are able to visit sister locations in Donovan and Hooper until the site is operational again.Â
An Ameren outage map shows power has been restored to the area as of Thursday morning.Â
The sheriff's office said a police presence was not requested, only fire department personnel.Â
