PEORIA (25News Now) - One person has been injured after a shooting early Sunday morning on Bradley University’s campus.
In an advisory sent out to students early Sunday morning, Bradley University said BU and Peoria Police responded to a shooting on the third floor of Geisert Hall on North Duryea Place around 2:15 a.m.
There, they determined it was an accidental shooting, and no imminent threat to campus.
In a statement released late Sunday morning, Bradley University said 911 calls were received saying associates of the victim were attempting to take the 18-year-old woman to the hospital by private vehicle.
Police found the vehicle in the area of Nebraska and Underhill with the woman, who had a gunshot wound to the abdomen. She was taken to a hospital, where she is listed in stable condition. Bradley adds the woman is not a student of the University.
Three people in connection with the incident were taken for interview purposes.
19-year-old Edward Traywick, Jr. of Lansing, Illinois was later arrested. He is charged with Unlawful Use of a Weapon, NO FOID, Possession of a Firearm Under 21, and Reckless Discharge.
BU says Traywick and the victim were both guests of a Bradley student, and are not students of the University.
Bradley adds this was an isolated incident, and there is no ongoing threat. Peoria Police is leading the investigation.
“Bradley University strictly prohibits firearms on its property, and any violations of Bradley’s policy prohibiting firearms will be addressed with appropriate legal and university action. Support services are available for all Bradley University students,” said the University statement.
