DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) – Work is underway to replace the aging Staley boat launch ramp across the street from the Country Club of Decatur. The ramp will be closed until November.

The existing ramp is being replaced with a longer ramp with a reduced slope.

“Boats that are longer with trailers are often falling off the back end and sometimes getting stuck,” Ryan Huffer of the City of Decatur told WAND News.

The cost of the project is around $325,000, and a significant portion of the price is being picked up by the Staley Family Foundation.

After the Staley boat ramp is improved, the City will eventually replace the heavily used boat launches in Nelson Park.
