CHARLESTON, Ill. (WAND) — Like many schools in the area, Charleston Middle School administrators and Charleston Police are handling a student threat. Officials say the student is facing Class 4 felony charges.

The Charleston Police Department said a Middle School student has been detained on preliminary felony juvenile charges for making a threat to a student, to pull a fire-alarm. They say the student also threatened to commit additional violence on school grounds. The student is facing several charges including making a terrorist threat, which is a Class X felony, and Disorderly Conduct, school threat, which is a Class 4 Felony.

Officials say students reported the threats to school administration, who immediately contacted the authorities.

Police initiated an investigation with school officials and parents of students. They say there is no indication that these threats were connected to other schools in central Illinois.
